Several hospitals and clinics are today in a position to present their clinical results, obtained with Ablatherm, with long-term follow-up of five years. Recently, the journal “Urology” published an article written by Pr. Wieland and Dr. Blana from the University of Regensburg, Germany. In this article, the physicians showed successful clinical results at five to ten years using HIFU technology with Ablatherm for the treatment of localized prostate cancer. The article clearly outlines the efficacy of this technology.
The study included 137 patients treated with five-year follow-up and showed 93.4% constant negative control biopsies in the patient population (1). Only two patients (2) had a PSA level that rose to greater than 4 and the benefits for the patients in terms of preservation of their quality of life was obvious due to very low associated morbidity with minor side effects. The results published in the Regensburg article are consistent with the long term results presented by all experienced Ablatherm centers.
(1) 87% of all patients had constant PSA levels of less than 1 ng/ml.
(2) 1.5%
